A trip to the past, an appreciation for the present
I loved my visit to the museum. The first thing I liked was that there were friendly tour guides for you to pick based on what languages they could speak and we are only charged about MYR 1 per person for the full guided tour. Photography is allowed and my family members and I made sure to capture everything that caught our attention.
Onward we moved on with the tour and we had a marvelous time learning about the cultures of the Baba and Nyonyas and what their beliefs were during those days. We were led into many rooms which had beautiful antique paintings and items of value. There was a room which was made up to look like a bridal room complete with a set of red colored bedroom slippers for the bride and groom. I saw a basket with two fake chickens inside and asked the guide what it was for. He said that in the old days, the people would leave a hen and a rooster in the basket. The sex of the chicken that jumped out first would be considered as a representation of the couple's first born's gender. This was but one of the many interesting stories we all heard in the tour. It was a very pleasureable learning experience.
