Great place for gatherings
I absolutely love being a Chinese. We have traditions hat bring together a family no matter how big or small the number. Last Chinese New Year, our families of almost 30 people decided to congregate and have a meal together in this restaurant. I have to admit that we were all very impressed with the restaurant's quality of food and service provided. Right from when we first sat, we had attendees who were always nearby to fetch us extra drinks or another serving of peanuts. When the food arrived, it was some of the best tasting Chinese food I have ever eaten in my life. We ordered steamed fish, fried tofu, onion rings, and all of them surprised us by overloading our taste buds with a burst of flavor at every bite. Our CNY dinner was made extra special thanks to this restaurant. Highly recommended.
The good cheap!
If you have cravings for some really delicious chinese dinner-type dishes, this is really one for the dinner records. This restaurant's specialties are some of my personal favourite dishes too like the Steamed Kampung Chicken – the meat was lean yet juicy and it came with a special home-made soya sauce dip.
Follow that up with the must-order Stuffed Deepfried Tofu that consists of minced peppered pork with chestnuts. And if you're into prawns, the Dried Prawn Beancurd or Thai Style Prawns is unforgettable.
Perhaps something on the 'steamy side'? Well Cheong Ching Fishhead will get you your MSG allowances for the day but to 'contra' that, you must try the range of double-boiled soups such as the mommy-days of good old cucumber, peanut or lotus root soup. Though mommy never made me chicken soup in an old coconut, this one's here too!
When my wife was in confinement, I had to eat whatever the confinement lady prepared, so the Pork Trotter with ginger and Black Vinegar served here brought back lot's of memories of that era.
As a typical Malaysian, dinner without something hot is like going to work in slippers – but that’s just me. So write this down too - Braised Curry Potato Pork Ribs - fragrant spices with Indian curry leaves. I mean you can already smell this dish coming through your computer screen, can’t you?
Price wise? It is cheap. No, not cheap not as in the bad cheap, but the good cheap. But I'm confusing you already. Don't believe me, just go there and you tell me.
Restoran Kong Sai also has outlets in Subang Jaya, Puchong, Bandar Mahkota Cheras and Klang. But the one I'm reviewing about here is from the oldest and first outlet (established in the 90's) at 39, Jalan 20/16, Taman Paramount, Petaling Jaya. Tel: 019 384 2022, 012 298 4038, or 012 308 6202. They don't open on Sundays though.
