Hui Lau Shan is a very famous franchise in Hong Kong. When it came to Malaysia, it gained instant popularity in KL and that is how I found out about this place. It was a very tiring day after a day's shopping with my wife. She knows I love mango so decided to take me to this place for a "delightful mango treat" as she described it. I was starting to get sick of all those regular Taiwan desserts which was filled with sugary drinks and those awful sugar cubes.
I ordered their Mango Passion fruit and was greatly surprised. It had fresh and juicy pieces of mango in the drink and tasted heavenly despite being filled with the sugary cubes I detested so much. At that point I was so happily eating the mango and taking in the sweetness, and smelling the fragrance in my mouth, I could care less about the sugar. I was in mango heaven.
I hear they are planning on opening a branch in Penang. Now I'm excited!
I'm excited it finally had their outlet in Malaysia
My first time to try Hui Lau Shan dessert shop was in Hong Kong. In Hong Kong, they run it as a fast food chain shop, having plenty of chain shop along the MRT line so that it is easier to access. Until one day, I realised that it is finally here in Malaysia and I was extremely excited because the dessert serve by them taste fantastic. The price is lower than my expectation as those sold in Hong Kong is even higher.
But the menu in Malaysia is slightly different, I guess they are trying to fit into Malaysian menu. I've tried their Mango Romance which cost about RM12.90. The mango is so juicy until I could not stop eating it, also, it serve with a lot of mango cube which I think it is best for Mango lovers. I've tried their drinks too but it is not as special as those sold in Hong Kong. This creates a bit of disappointment for me.
Only if you love mango.
One day after lunch, my friends and I were craving for desserts and we decided to give this newly opened shop a try.
I didn’t know that Hui Lau Shan is a dessert shop specializing in mango desserts until I looked at their menu. Almost every single item focuses on fresh fruit, particularly mango. Since we wanted to try different types of desserts at one time, we ordered a Mango Romance.
Mango Romance is actually a platter combining three smaller servings of desserts including sweetie ball, coconut noodles, ice-cream, and glutinous rice ball. The food was not bad but overpriced – a little bit disappointing overall.
The most mouth watering desserts.
Hui Lau Shan is excellent as the combination of fruits in their desserts produces unexpected results.
I had the Mango Icy Sweety Ball the other day and in the middle of my bowl is a scoop of what looks like mango ice cream. However it tasted like durian without the smell. Later I found out it was a mix of mango and sea coconut ice cream. It's one of the most delicious desserts I've tasted so far.
The other good thing about this place is that it overlooks the shops downstairs so you have a nice view while enjoying your desserts.
