The very first Kim Gary restaurant was opened in year 1992 in Sham Shui Po, Hong Kong and its business has now expanded from Hong Kong to Malaysia and Singapore. Serving the authentic taste of Hong Kong food, Kim Gary also combines the essence of Chinese and Western food culture to keep pace with the modern world.

There are too many order forms which can be messy and confusing. I really think that it is better to have a waiter to take our orders especially if it is a small group of customers.

The food tastes really average but expensive. Even the instant noodles are expensive; you are better off buying Maggi and cook it by yourself. Wong Kok Char Chan Teng serves better Hong Kong food. The mediocre food still manages to attract many customers, maybe because Chinese people prefer to dine at a Chinese eatery. I think it is due to the hype as well.

Finally we decided to try Kim Gary thinking that it must be pretty good as we often see queues forming. The first impression was okay. Busy place with the normal hustle and bustle you see in restaurants. Upon being seated, we were given menus and almost immediately felt overwhelmed. In terms of the numbers of menu items and varieties of food.

After looking through the menu we decided on the Curry cheese baked rice, peanut butter toast with condensed milk, mango snow mellow and yuan yang. When our much awaited food arrived, they looked appetizing but sadly it tasted average. I would advise to buy and share the snow mellow as it quite a generous portion and a tad too sweet for me. Overall, its still edible if you're not really very fussy with food.

Decent Spicy Noodles

I remember coming here in 2011 at Sunway Pyramid with my ex-girlfriend who was chinese. At that time, we weren't together yet but we were stuck in a project team for our foundation course. I was craving for a good bowl of noodles and asked her if she knew any particular place that we could go for.

So she brought me to Kim Gary, which was nearby Brussels cafe, just outside of Parkson. I ordered a bowl of Hong Kong Spicy Noodles. It was just a little bit spicy. I personally felt that the Curry flavour of Maggi Instant Noodles was more spicy than this but at least it was better than your regular Mee Curry at a regular hawker. Nothing interesting to say about this place though as it seemed a bit dull.

Uses menus to confuse you.

Being in the restaurant for the first time, I was given a menu. In that menu, there were more menus, and to order from the menu, I needed to fill in another menu. I then asked myself,"What is going on?" I counted, and there was about 12 menus in total. This is the first time felt so confused on what to order.

Then comes the food. I ordered a set which had soup, a main dish and drinks given. The soup was too watery, and with the quantity given, I already felt full even before the main dish comes. The main dish tasted average, but had a large quantity as well. By the end of it, I looked like I gained 10kg in weight already.

Most of the waiters there did not know any english, and preferred to speak in mandarin/hokkien, but I guess this is a chinese restaurant after all. Overall, I did not like that place so much.

Little value in the food

The first thing you will have to endure would be when you are ordering your food. The restaurant has a wide variety of food which is good, unfortunately the menus are not arranged in proper order. It is such a headache to have to deal with 15 or so menus to write your order.

The food normally comes quite fast as they have plenty of waiters and waitresses running in and out of the kitchen constantly. Unfortunately there are many times where the food is simply not delicious and for the price tag they carry, you can certainly eat at better places.

Overpriced average food

I really don't understand why there's a queue outside Kim Gary's during dinner time. I personally find it a rip off considering I can cook the same type of food myself at home for a fraction of the price, not to mention make it tastier than theirs.

I feel that their food has an artificial taste that I can't put my finger on. But that's probably because they use MSG. This place is overrated and overpriced and I really don't recommend going there.

HK style Fast food

I used to love Kim Gary but nowadays I find their food quality has dropped and the service is consistently sucks since the first day. With the price I pay, their food does not look appealing anymore. Their baked rice still tastes good. You will get a layer of browned and melted cheese on top of fried rice. Still acceptable for the price I paid. I used to patron their Sungai Wang outlet but I would rather have street foods which taste much better than this place. Fast food quality with such price tag? Sorry, it is not my cup of tea anymore.

Well known for cheese baked rice.

Every time I visit Kim Gary, I’ll order their cheese baked rice most of the time.

Their cheese baked rice is definitely filling meal when the portion is just nice. They also have their specialty baked spaghetti or rice in twin sauce – tomato sauce and white sauce. It’s good if you want to try two sauces at one time. But I still don’t have the courage to try their curry baked Swiss cheese rice yet as I don’t eat spicy food.

Besides that, not many shops in Mid Valley open until late night but Kim Gary is one of the exceptions. So I’ll normally come here for some snacks before my midnight movie starts. I personally like their French toast very much, and their Hong Kong milk tea as well.
