Pewter, not Pewterschmidt.
If you are familiar with the name Pewterschmidt, chances are you either know someone with that name or you're a Family Guy fan. I am the latter. It is okay if you don't know what pewter is. Allow me to explain. Pewter is this metallic alloy that people use to make tableware before cheaper, more efficient materials were used to make it.
Now back to Royal Selangor, the tour explains the history, uses of pewter and basically everything about pewter. It makes for a great learning experience, especially if you're not familiar with pewter. It's not exactly for everyone but if you fancy historical artefacts then you will definitely have a great time here.
Unexpected learning experience
Wow, what a surprise. We hardly hear anything about this place when in actually fact the place is promoted so widely overseas. That is kind of weird since there are more foreigners who know about the this center than locals.
I visited this place once and it was a great learning experience.I had the chance to learn all sorts of things about pewter, from how it was made to information about the history of the place. The people working there were very friendly and this made the experience a whole lot better. Why is there no campaign or ad that promotes this place more on television??
Great experience for everyone
The centre really gives an insight into the pewter beer mug in your kitchen! I was amazingly showed how all the pewter is hand made into an incredible array of items. The staffs are so friendly and informative where they furnish us with lots of information and history about pewter. We was also indulged in history of tin mining around Selangor area where we were showed photos and items from our ancestors. We missed chance to get a touch and try to produce a mug ourselves but I would make a trip back to the centre to try out since the entrance is free.
A place you should know as a Malaysian
I'm working in RSVC so I know this place quite well. One thing I feel sad about it is quite a number of Malaysians don't know this place or even this name though Royal Selangor is far well known than you can imagine in overseas. Even Martha Stewart Visited RSVC before. So sad right? Here, you will have a guided tour shows you the history of Royal Selangor which is already about 127 years, then you will learn the history of pewter, the factory ( this is the most amazing part, I can tell from tourists face) and finally the retail shop for you to buy souvenirs (typical for all Tourist hotspot, don't you agree?). It is no harm to visit since it is free.
