Opened to the general public in February 2007, the Lok Kawi Wildlife Park offers the locals another place for a weekend family getaway. It offers a variety of wildlife inside their respected pen and also a botanical trail for all those nature lovers who loves jungle trekking.

Sabah's own animal wonderland
Despite it's name, the locals call it the Lok Kawi mini zoo. Situated far away from the city, it is truly a little getaway for you to spend a little leisure time with you and you're family. They house a quite a number of animals, from Asia's very own sun bear, to the pygmy elephant and even the ring-tailed lemur. Or as I like to call it, King Julian, based on Dreamwork's Movie, Madagascar.
Attractions wise, I think that this little wildlife sanctuary holds a lot of attraction. One of the the things that I love to do is to spot elusive Bambi, or the little mouse-deer in it's enclosure. I don't think I've ever found it on my first try in any of my 5 visits to the mini zoo. Apart from all that, the other animals are pretty friendly. Besides that, this was the place where I first heard a tiger's roar. Quite a mighty and majestic roar if you asked me. I also loved the sun bear. If you're lucky, you'll find them playing around with a coconut shell. Very cute indeed.
All in all, a definite worthwhile visit!
