  • Childhood in Singapore   Image adapted from: Tom’s Hardware There’s nothing 80s or 90s kids love more than a good throwback. Sure, iPads and the latest phones are cool and all - but nothing can beat the days when “cloud” was nothing more than a visible mass of condensed vapour,...

Non-touristy things to do in Gold Coast   Most people think that the Gold Coast is all about beaches and lepak -ing, but there are loads of activities for travelers who’d rather have an adventure in the great outdoors than lie on a beach towel and suntan. We’re not talking...

    L.I.C.K $12 Ice Cream Buffet
Everyone has a separate tummy for desserts, and you’ll be glad that’s the case at this all-you-can-eat ice cream buffet. My ice cream cravings were definitely satisfied when I visited this quaint cafe at Tanjong Katong Road, with two $12 buffet sessions every Friday (2-4 p.m and 6-8 p.m) that makes for the perfect TGIF celebration.

From classic flavours like Chunky Oreos, to local flavours like Kaya Toast, ice-cream lovers will be spoilt for choice with over 40 homemade ice cream flavours to choose from. One scoop of ice cream usually costs around $4, so be sure to have at least 3 rounds of ice cream to make the experience worth it. Oh, and did I mention that you get free waffles during your first round?

If it makes you feel any less guilty, L.I.C.K is a 12-minute walk from Dakota MRT station, so you can always choose to walk back after the buffet to burn those calories.

Farah Diana $15 Steamboat and Grill
While steamboat was originally a Chinese and Japanese tradition, several steamboat and grill restaurants in Singapore have started introducing halal dishes to cater to the Muslim population. Located at North Bridge Road, Farah Diana is a pocket-friendly option known for its amazing buffet spread with veggies, meat, and seafood, as well as free flow drinks. During promotional periods, the buffet is priced at $15 (U.P $22).

After the main course, feel free to treat yourself to some childhood favorites such as ice popsicles and chendol-potong ice cream.

Monday Liquid Buffet at Idle from $20
At just $20 for women and $25 for men, you can drink all your Monday blues away and enjoy a free flow of Gin, Rum, Vodka, Bourbon, Whiskey and Beer from 5 p.m - 12 a.m.

However, if you’re the type to knock out after 1-2 drinks, opt for the Tuesday promo with $3 for all spirits and wines. Idle’s bartenders are friendly and experienced, so you can always trust them to whip up a special concoction according to your preference.

Idle has a very cosy ambience and has a small dance floor at the centre of the bar which is just enough to fit 6 people. However, toilet queues can get pretty long as there is only one cubicle, and the bar can get rather noisy after 10 p.m. Nevertheless, it is a great place to wind down after a long day at work.

    Michelin-starred dishes from just $3
Food in Singapore is expensive, but you don’t have to spend an arm and a leg just to enjoy first-class food. I was strolling through Chinatown and was ecstatic when I discovered this Michelin-starred hawker stall at 78 Smith Street.

Queueing at delicious food stalls is almost a national sport. That being said, be prepared to queue for at least 30 minutes before getting your hands on their amazing Char Siew Rice ($3). Nicely caramelised and dripping with dark sauce, the char siew is juicy and tender with a firm texture. Another favorite would be the Pork Rib Noodles ($5). While the sauce is more sweet than it is salty, you do have the option of mixing the soup with the spicy sauce.

Party at Clarke Quay’s newest space-like superclub
Say “bye” to club hopping because now with the newly relocated Zouk, you get to party in five different concept bars under the same roof - that’s one bar for every hour of the night.

Compared to its smaller counterpart at Jiak Kim Street, the new Zouk boasts a 640 sqm lounge, a lavish dance floor with plush seats, an exotic island bar, and larger compartments for bag storage. While Velvet Underground didn’t survive the new relocation, the new Phuture is graffiti decorated with a larger dance floor and classy low cocktail tables.

Cover charges during the weekends are $30 for ladies and $35 for men, inclusive of two free drinks and an all access pass to Zouk and Phuture.

A handy period tracker just flo you!
For many women, tracking our period is much easier with an app than with a calendar. Out of the plethora of period tracking apps, none has ever impressed me as much as Flo.
Flo also takes into account a variety of factors that can influence the period cycle, such as health information and PMS symptoms. Much to my surprise, the period prediction dates are often 99% accurate and I don’t ever have to worry about an accidental leak

The free app also has an aesthetic design with pastel pinks and floral wallpaper. Most importantly, it’s password protected so you don’t have to worry about anyone snooping around and finding out private information.
